THE FOREST OF LOST SOULS

The Forest of the Lost Souls is a dense and remote forest, Portugal's most popular place for suicide. On a summer morning, two strangers meet in the woods.

"It makes a lot more sense in the vein of the serial killer being a metaphor for what happens to people after someone commits suicide." - Vanessa

"The cinematography is quite fantastic." - Rafe

"This is a film I’d like to watch again. … In watching the first 30 minutes a second time around, I got so much more out of what was going on." - Jeff

"The black and white cinematography is really crisp and exquisite, especially when they are in the forest. … There are some gorgeous shots." - Doc

Director: José Pedro Lopes
Cast: Daniela Love, Jorge Mota, Mafalda Banquart

Release: October Coast, opens theatrically August 3 in L.A and other cities.

3: AN EYE FOR AN EYE

A man and a woman kidnap her rapist in order to extract a confession, come hell or - hell.

"The opening scene has a lot of tension for me as somebody who lives in that kind of environment, … and that set me on edge right from the start." - Jeff

"It’s quite intriguing. You really get into these characters and what’s happening because you don’t know who to believe. You may or may not have an unreliable narrator." - Doc

Director: Lou Simon
Cast: Aniela McGuinnes, Katie Carpenter, Todd Bruno, Mike Stanley

Release: Uncork'd on August 7, 2018

EXTINCTION

A father has a recurring dream of losing his family. His nightmare turns into reality when the planet is invaded by a force bent on destruction. Fighting for their lives, he comes to realize an unknown strength to keep them safe from harm.

"The thing that got me into the story is the attention to detail and the world building that they are able to create. ... I think it is a great science fiction thriller, a really great tale." - Vanessa

"Extinction takes a turn that blew my mind. I totally did not expect the direction the story goes." - Rafe

"I really liked this film. It fed my cynicism and paranoia about institutions." - Jeff

"The whole twist, I found incredibly fascinating and what it meant and how it changed the context of everything we were seeing up until then." - Doc

Director: Ben Young
Cast: Lizzy Caplan, Michael Peña, Mike Colter

Release: July 27, 2018, on Netflix
